AFL Season Performance
iSports Solutions partnered with Blackbook AI to design a public-facing platform that turns raw match data into a navigable season record for AFL competitions.
Client Context
iSports' Video Analyser gives sporting administrators powerful tools to capture and export gameplay data, but the workflow stopped there. Making sense of performance across an entire season meant manually consolidating CSV exports, a process that was slow, inconsistent, and produced outputs that were hard to share with anyone outside the technical team.
Coaches couldn't easily compare team trends. Players had no way to track their own progress. Fans had nothing to engage with at all. The data existed; it just had nowhere meaningful to live.
The Challenge
The existing workflow was constrained by several structural gaps:
- Match and season data existed only as raw CSV exports, with no structure for broader use
- Manual consolidation of exports was slow, error-prone, and inconsistent across competitions
- Coaches had no simple way to compare team performance trends across a season
- Players had no visibility into their own individual statistics or progress
- Fans had no platform through which to engage with results, ladders, or player performance
The Solution
Blackbook AI designed and delivered a public-facing platform built around an information architecture that mirrors how people think about sport:
- Structured competitions to break down into fixtures and results, rather than isolated exports
- Built a league table displaying team rankings with season totals and averages
- Created dedicated leaderboard views highlighting individual player performance across disposals, clearances, and goals
- Delivered high-fidelity wireframes for detailed match report pages, comparing home and away performance through graphs and data tables, and calling out match leaders
- Linked every match through to its own report, so each game's story is readable within the interface, not just retrievable from it
The Outcome
- Season-Level Visibility:
Raw CSV exports were transformed into a navigable season record spanning fixtures, results, and league tables
- Player Progress Tracking:
Individual leaderboards gave players a clear way to monitor their own contributions across the season
- Coach-Ready Trend Analysis:
Match report pages let coaches compare home and away performance and spot tactical trends at a glance
- Fan Engagement:
A public-facing platform gave fans a reason to explore, share, and return to the competition throughout the season
