Last Week Was One Meeting After Another

Last Week Was One Meeting After Another

Most enterprises stall on agentic AI pilots, while real value comes from unglamorous fixes, like one energy retailer's automated billing pipeline that saved $100K a year.

Hi all 👋

‍

This week was one meeting after another for me; back-to-back all week, barely a gap between them. But almost every conversation came back to the same theme: a process someone described to me that, in theory, could run on its own.

‍

What's Happening in AI
‍

Open AI CEO’s Sam Altman says we've entered the singularity, but roughly 93% of enterprises still can't get agentic AI past the pilot stage.

To be honest, I don't have a strong opinion on whether we've hit the singularity. Largely because my expertise is a business goals-first approach to how technology (AI or otherwise) can solve the problems. Singularity is also not most companies' problem right now anyway.

What I do know is that the organizations getting real value from agentic AI aren't the ones making the boldest predictions about it. They're doing the less exciting work first: cleaning up their data, picking one process, proving it works, then expanding.

The AI conversation happening online and the AI reality happening inside most companies are two different worlds right now.

‍

This Week's Case Study
‍

Revenue covers up a lot of operational sins. For one energy retailer, every new account meant 90 minutes of the back office manually pulling data from a warehouse and forcing it into the billing system. 3,600 hours a year, just to recognize revenue.

Hiring wasn't the fix; the systems needed to talk to each other. We built an automation layer between the warehouse and the billing APIs; no manual imports, no formatting errors, data moving on its own.

Processing time dropped 70%, saving over $100,000 in administrative drag.

‍

‍A Useful Resource
‍

One question I get quite often is: "How do I know if a process is actually worth automating?"

That's why we built the Administrative Tax Calculator. It shows you how much you're paying premium salaries to do low-value work, chasing updates, manual entry, bridging gaps between systems. Before you hire another person, see how much you're already losing to broken processes.

‍

That's it for this week.
